Mexico
Medic Outpost projects in Mexico are focused on the southern states, many of which are rural and poverty-stricken. State governments are responsible for remote healthcare but have few resources outside of accessible cities. Some remote areas are served by “casas de salud,” rural one or two-room clinics with inadequate resources and training to address medical emergencies. Medic Outpost empowers locals to take increased ownership of their community’s healthcare.
Rural Midwife Training
Each year thousands of newborns die at birth. A majority could be saved with the proper training and equipment. Medic Outpost is on a 2 year mission to decrease infant mortality in the developing world. Our midwife training program was developed to be taught to anyone regardless of language, education, socio-economic status. We are proud to partner with Laerdal Medical Corporation and various Ministries of Health in Mexico and around the world to bring this program to the most remote areas of the world. It is a challenge to dispel ancient myths about birthing and provide modern resuscitation equipment to save lives but we are doing it. We are proud to say our list of resuscitated newborns is growing by the month.
PROJECT GUERRERO
Known for its mountainous, rough terrain, Guerrero is home to several indigenous groups, most of whom live in rugged isolated areas.
We offer training courses in basic first aid and first response.
We tailor training programs to the needs and resources of specific communities.
We regularly evaluate program effectiveness and equipment inventories.
We provide continuing education.
PROJECT CHIAPAS
With over 28,000 square miles of rugged landscape stretching from the Sierra Madre de Chiapas to the Lacondon jungle, Chiapas encompasses hundreds of isolated and underserved villages with little or no healthcare.
Chiapas has the highest infant mortality rate per capita in Mexico.
We recently trained over 30 doctors and nurses in neonatal resuscitation and left neonatal emergency kits with area clinics.
